The Wall and the Wall

Also called die Mauer und das Gewand, this interior scale model was built for Studio Pararaum's design competition submission for the Erneuerung Textilmuseum St.Gallen, in St. Gallen Switzerland. A historic textile museum, the new vertical addition proposes an exhibition space that is a subtle, yet complex weave of skins/membranes; exterior claddings, thermal barrier, interior enclosure and staircase shell. 

A room within a room, the climatically stable exhibition hall is protected from direct sun exposure, creating ideal conditions for the exhibition of delicate objects and textiles. Long-spanning roof truss sits on the load-bearing facades. The plenum space between double skin layer provides for climate control. Exterior panels provide sun protection and light.
